Martha, sit

Not getting notifications?

Martha, sit notifies you when you’re scheduled to serve or when the schedule changes. If you’re not getting notifications, most likely this phone or computer hasn’t allowed them yet. Find the section below for how you use the app.

Check Home first

If you see Turn on notifications or Add to Home Screen at the top of Home, this device isn’t set up yet. Tap it and follow the steps.

Even without push notifications, you won’t miss anything: the bell at the top right of Home lists the last 30 days of notifications, with a red dot when there’s something new.

Web app on a phone

A browser tab on a phone can’t get notifications, or gets closed too easily. So first add Martha, sit to your Home Screen, and open it from the Home Screen icon. On iPhone, this is the only way to get notifications.

  1. Tap Add to Home Screen on Home and follow the steps on screen.
    • iPhone: Open it in Safari, tap the Share icon in Safari, then tap Add to Home Screen.
    • Android: Chrome usually pops up an install prompt. One tap and it’s installed. If not, follow the steps on screen.
  2. Open Martha, sit from the Home Screen icon. On iPhone, you’ll need to sign in again.
  3. Tap Turn on notifications on Home, and tap Allow when asked.

If you opened the link inside LINE, you’re in LINE’s built-in browser, which can’t add to the Home Screen. Follow the on-screen steps to copy the link, then open it in Safari or Chrome instead.

Web app on a computer

Tap Turn on notifications on Home, and click Allow when your browser asks.

If you blocked notifications before, your browser won’t ask again. Go to your browser’s site settings and change notifications for Martha, sit to Allow.

Phone app

The first time you open the app, it asks about notifications. Tap Turn on notifications, then tap Allow.

If you chose not to allow them back then, Home and Settings → Notifications show Turn on in system settings. Tap it to go straight to Martha, sit’s notifications in your phone’s settings. Turn them on, then come back to the app.

Which notifications there are

In Settings → Notifications, you can turn each one on or off:

  • Serving reminders: A reminder of your serving at 7 p.m. For Reminder time, choose Monday evenings (lists this week’s serving), The evening before, or Both.
  • Schedule changes: When you’re added to or removed from serving. Changes after 10 p.m. wait until 7 a.m., so they won’t wake you up at night.
  • Attendance reminders: For whoever fills in attendance, when no one has filled it in by 9 p.m. on the meeting day.
  • Requests to join, Team member left: Admins only.

Notifications are set up per device: if you use both a phone and a computer, allow them on both. If you belong to several churches, each church’s notifications are set separately.

Still not getting them?

  • Make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb isn’t on.
  • Web app on iPhone: make sure you opened it from the Home Screen icon, not a Safari tab.
  • Report a problem or email support@marthasit.com, and tell us which phone and browser you use.
